Quality + traceability
Quality control throughout the build
Connect incoming materials, assembly, inspection, functional testing and shipment records to the released product revision. Our quality work follows the agreed acceptance criteria and the manufacturing route.
Production controls
Follow the board from receipt to shipment
| Stage | Control activity | Record to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming materials | Identify parts, check received materials and control substitutions | Approved BOM, lot information and inspection disposition |
| First article | Compare the initial assembly with drawings and BOM | First-article findings and release decision |
| SMT and through-hole | Control printing, placement, soldering and handling | Process settings and inspection results |
| Test | Apply the agreed electrical and functional checks | Test revision, limits, result and failure disposition |
| Final inspection | Confirm assembly, identification and pack-out | Outgoing inspection and shipment traceability |
| Change control | Review deviations, corrective action and repeat-build changes | Approved change history and updated work instructions |
Complementary methods
Inspection and functional test answer different questions
SPI checks solder-paste deposition. AOI checks visible assembly features. X-ray supports inspection of hidden joints. ICT and FCT depend on electrical access, fixtures, software and product-specific limits. The test plan defines which methods are applied and what the results establish.
Supplier qualification
Review the documents for the proposed factory
The certificate library includes supplied ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 records for Jiangmen and Rayong, plus IECQ ESD records for Rayong. Each entry identifies the holder, site, scope and document dates. Current status and project applicability should be checked during supplier qualification.
Your quality requirements
Agree the evidence before the build
- Workmanship criteria and acceptance class
- Unit-level or batch-level identification
- Required inspection and test records
- Failure analysis, repair and re-test rules
- Record access and retention requirements
- Customer approval points and escalation contacts
Quality documentation
Define a useful traceability record
A traceability record should connect the product revision, relevant material lots, process and test history, and release decision. Agree the required coverage and export format before the build.
Engineering requirements
Define workmanship and handling requirements
Specify the applicable standards, revisions and acceptance class in the project requirements. IPC J-STD-001 addresses soldered-assembly materials, processes and acceptance requirements; IPC-A-610 addresses acceptability of electronic assemblies. Referencing these standards does not establish personnel or facility certification.
During qualification, request the controls relevant to the product: ESD handling, moisture-sensitive device identification and floor-life tracking, storage and any drying or baking instructions, solder-paste storage and use, and approved repair and re-test procedures. Assess the proposed site’s records against the agreed requirements rather than assuming identical controls for every route.
Agree how exceptions reach the release decision
Define who can accept a deviation, approve a repair or release a lot with an open item. A record should identify the affected revision and units, original finding, action, approval and final disposition. Retention and access should be agreed for the project rather than inferred from a sample report.
Request a representative report and check that it connects to the proposed site and test procedure. The traceability report field guide explains the records to discuss; testing and inspection defines the checks behind those records.
